Passion Project

2023 ALTIC Foxtrot Passion Project by Gene Balding

My passion project developed from my first years experience in my instructional technology position. We were challenged at the AETC conference, by our ALTIC leaders, to look for a project that would be something beneficial to ourselves, but also something useful that could benefit our position as a technology leader in our school system. As I reflected on all that I had learned at 2022 AETC, I developed an idea for my project. I often found my self providing help to teachers with tasks that could have been easily solved, if they knew where to look. I realized I needed a place for teachers to go for tech support for common everyday issues using the software and hardware resources made available to them by our school system. In talking with my CTO, a couple of months after the fall conference, I kept getting the feeling our system was going to make a move toward using Schoology to deliver professional development to our staff. After our conversations I realized that I could utilize Schoology as a repository for my teacher tech support site. So as time progressed I started to keep mental note of issues teachers were having and inventorying the technology our teachers and staff were using. From the list they seemed to have the most issues with, I started developing my Schoology tech support course. In this course I placed the software or hardware that teachers used and started linking support pages for common issues teachers needed help with. I intended for this page to be ever evolving as needs arise, it will not be static.
